The Mourningsong Magpie

Description

I just finished my biggest taxidermy altering and repair project today

This special creature is a hybrid between a magpie,  rooster and a melanistic pheasant.
The base I used was a mounted magpie in a flying pose. It was in an aweful condition and therefore I decided to use it for a project.
I cut off the wings and tail and mounted it on a base - made from driftwood and norwegian stone.
The following weeks I gathered the pieces I still needed: new magpie wings, melanistic pheasant feathers and tons of rooster feathers.
My first step was adding shiny feathers of the melanistic pheasant to the throat and neck area of the magpie. Every single feather was glued to the piece with patience and enthusiasm. After that I added the wings, which was kind of difficult due to their weight and the overall bad condition of the mount.
For the tail I dissembled 4 rooster skins (I still have rooster fluff balls flying through my room and sticking to my clothes everywhere...).
I used feathers of every length and added them layer for layer until I added small spiky feathers for the transition between tail and body.

I am actually very excited that it worked and that I was able to finish it.
Hope you like it :)

(please visit my crafting account Bestienfabrik - this magpie will be uploaded there as well. And future projects!)
