Description
Species: Alces alces
Length: 55cm
Width: 21cm
Gender: female
Origin: old collection from Germany / specimen was probably scandinavian
Info: Another "holy grail" I was able to acquire this year: The skull of a female moose! I wasn't aware how hard it would be to get one, back in the days where I saw my first moose skull. Now, a few years later, I lost my naive thoughts on that. This skull is not perfectly clean and the lower jaw was sadly fixed to the upper skull and is not movable anymore. I might have to replace this skull someday but for now I am extremely happy and adore it with every inch of my collector's heart A big lady it is, with that lovely nasal shape. One of the most expensive skulls I ever bought but from what I see still a steal. The only other moose skull I saw for sale recently was listed for around 400-500€.
The tiny skull on the nose is from an european roe deer.

Moose are one of those animals where they shouldnt be that big, they look weird, and their skulls are even weirder. Amazing, none the less.
